Breakneck Romeo and JulietOn January 23, 2024, at 7 p.m., the Phillip H. Lowe Performing Arts Series presents Tim Mooney and his one-man play Breakneck Romeo & Juliet at the Vara Martin Daniel Performing Arts Center on the Hill County Campus.

For over 20 years, Mooney’s performances have thrilled audiences around the world. Tony Osborne, professor of communication studies at Gonzaga University, said, “You [Mooney] demystified Shakespeare in a mere 90 minutes.”

In Breakneck Romeo & Juliet, Mooney takes audiences through a witty and approachable version of one of Shakespeare’s most beloved tragedies, Romeo & Juliet.

The Performing Arts Series presented its first season of concerts in the 1993–1994 academic year at the Hill County Campus and is celebrating its 30-year anniversary. Phillip H. Lowe, former band director and coordinator of visual and performing arts program at Hill College, organized the series with the help of then-president Dr. William Auvenshine, with the idea that it would be free to the public and that funds would be raised through donations from the community and arts, music, and theater supporters. Over the last 30 years, the series has grown into one of the college’s most popular programs.

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Phillip H. Lowe Performing Arts Series, Hill College has launched a year-long fundraising campaign, “30 for 30,” to support the future of programming for the series. The goal of the fundraising campaign is to raise $30,000 through memberships and donations before the end of 2024.
